This year the Great Yorkshire Show will be held on 11-13 July 2017. The WI are well represented at the show and have their own hall in which WI’s compete against each other in several categories (these vary each year). The fun thing is that you compete under the name of your WI not your own name (so no embarrassment if your Jam Tarts have soggy middles like mine did last year).
We counted over 20 opportunities for Kirby Hill Wi members to have a go in categories that covered cake baking and decorating, flower arranging, garland making, there is a collective category where a number of exhibits come together in a display.
It’s a great opportunity to have a go at something you haven’t tried before and don’t forget if it is a new experience for you it counts on our 90 for 90 scoreboard. Time is running out to enter so if you want to have a go speak to Margaret Shinn, secretary at our June meeting or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Some of the entries need to be at Alma House by the 23 June 2017 for pre-judging.
Below are a few images of entries in last year’s Great Yorkshire Show (including the soggy middled jam tarts). We didn’t win any over all awards (we didn’t enter enough categories to do that) but achieved some first and second prizes and had a real giggle doing it.
