Kirby Hill WI was formed in 1927 to provide friendship, support, education and inspiration to the ladies of Kirby Hill, Langthorpe and surrounding villages. Fast forward almost 90 years and you will find a forward looking institute that embraces change while remaining true to the core values of our founders.
So what does Kirby Hill WI look and feel like?
Open the doors of Coronation Hall, Milby in the 15 or so minutes before our monthly meetings start at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of every month and you will hear up to 40 women having a chat, catching up, welcoming new faces and speculating on what the meeting will bring (and of course reaching for a £1 to buy one of Hazel’s raffle tickets!).
The age range of our members spans almost 50 years and we are looking to widen that even further. We attract women who work full – time, part time or are looking for work; full time mums, grandmothers, carers, volunteers, retirees (some tick many boxes!) – in short a diverse and interesting mix. Anyone who is living as a woman is welcome to join the WI and to participate in any WI activities.
We are an active and modern institute – Our monthly WI meeting is only the start. You will also find extra groups you can join. Currently we have a regular book club, a knitting group (for absolute beginners as well as those who are advanced) , Pudding Club, monthly dinners at local restaurants, meets for coffee, cake and chat during the day and others seasonal events.
We are active in the community supporting the welfare of our members and others.
When and where we meet
We meet on the 1st Tuesday of every month (except February) @ 7.30pm in the Coronation Hall, Old Station Yard, Milby Lane, Milby, YO51 9BL (next to Boroughbridge Brick and Tile). The room we use is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible.
Each meeting there is a speaker or an activity plus the chance to catch up with other members over a cup of tea and a biscuit.
Come along as a visitor and see for yourself.
If the thought of entering a room where you don’t know anyone fills you with dread, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or through Facebook and one of us will be waiting to welcome you and introduce you to new friends.
